We got this plant from a teacher as a small sprig. We have it inside but have no idea what it is.

Please resubmit with closeup of the base of the plant & a better focus on its leaves. From this angle I’m unable to see the main stem/trunk (?) and leaves details clearly. Can you provide us a photo the mother plant? Please tell us if it is grown as houseplant also. Do you know how the teacher had obtained i.e. given, found(where) or purchased?
