Notes:
This weed grows in my mother-in-law’s yard and it smells like a carrot. We are wondering what it is and if it is edible 🙂

Can grow as tall as 5′ with a large umbrel white flower consisting of many tiny white flowers with a red center flower, the function of the tiny red flower, colored by anthocyanin, is to attract insects. Flowers are a very pretty addition to any summer bouquet.

Wouldn’t recommend eating anything but the root.

Looks like wild carrot, daucus carota, a/k/a Queen Anne’s Lace. If it smells like a carrot, then that’s pretty certainly what it is. It grows worldwide. It’s edible, but be sure of the smell. Poison hemlock has similar leaf.
