Notes:
leaves from a small tree about 12 feet tall, grey-brown bark with some exfoliation. I can find no flowers or fruit on the tree. The new leaves are redish. Perhaps a stopper of some type.

You could be right (?), unfortunately there are numerous genera & thousands species in the topper group.
