I rather think the Spanish Bluebell is invasive in the UK and is overtaking the native English Bluebell territory. There is nothing to compare with a beech wood with a carpet of English Bluebells.

Spanish Bluebells I think. They are taller and more erect that the English Bluebells. both can take terrible conditions: low light, drought, anything but wet feet. English bluebells are invasive in England. I enjoy them in my garden though. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/147596/
