Notes:

I found this plant growing in one of our pots. It gets full sun most of the day, it is one main, thin stalk with a bunch of branches with leaves coming off them. At first I thought it was a flower growing from some seeds I planted, but it has rapidly grown to be about 3 feet tall and the stalk is getting woody at the bottom. I have no idea what it is or where it came from!

It is not a tree although some of the helianthus varieties can reach six to eight feet in the fall! Check this link and compare http://www.plantbio.uga.edu/herbarium/herbarium/gaflowers/helianthus_strumosus.htm Lemon Queen is one of the Helianthus hybrids that are used in perennial gardens.
