Notes:
This tree is on Douglas Road in Alpharetta (Johns Creek side). I have tried to identify it on line and with Simon and Schuster Guide to Trees. The closest I can come is Empress Tree (Scrophulariacese) native to China We moved here ten years ago and I have questioned the identity of this tree every spring. For a long time I thought it was a locust. There are others in the area so I”m sure it isn’t rare. Just not known to me. I enjoy your column in AJC. Thanks for your help.

parityanimal Master Identifier says:
Paulownia. Or also called Empress Tree. They CAN be controlled but tend to be a weed and eat your yard. Good luck with it!

It looks like an Empress Tree to me, but I usually eradicate them before they bloom, so I am a little rusty on how they look when they are mature.
