Notes:
While walking my dog, I noticed a mysterious hole in a tree trunk. What could have caused this?

In my neighborhood we had a tree that had divided like this one. Someone put a board between the two branches. We loved to sit there. Then I noticed the tree had started to grow around the board. I left home 40+ years ago. I imagine that it now looks like this tree.

I also think there were two limbs that fused as they grew, and years later this is the result. Pretty cool. 🙂

I imagine it’s where two large limbs somehow grew together and are now fused rather than a hole in an existing trunk.

Anyone sitting on the limb to the left could maybe not be seen while looking at the approaching “enemy” thru the hole. Just saying.

Easy answer. That’s a Doughnut Hole tree.

I have a new app on my cell that identifies plants. You just take a picture of it and bam there it is. It is called PlantSnap it is on google play. It seems to work great.
