Notes:

This weed appears in our yard every year. It seems to start out as a cover of small yellow flowers, but once the flower dies, prickers appear that are so sharp that they go through flip flops. What is this and how do we get rid of it?

The top picture has a lot of little yellow hop clover. Not too nice on the lawn; but deer like it and it builds soil.

Here’s a pretty good view of the business end of lawn burweed. Compare to your flipflops! http://botany.0catch.com/burweed4.html

Pretty sure that’s primarily lawn burweed. The yellow blooms are of another plant blooming at the same time. I am unsure of what they might be. Lawn burweed blooms are a relatively inconspicuous green. Compare to this link http://www.clemson.edu/extension/hgic/pests/weeds/hgic2323.html
