Notes:
The enc photos show a Jade Tiara Cleyera. This was planted 1 yr ago and was fine until 1month ago. Then the Cleyera rapidly changed leaf color with the leaves becoming brittle. Slightly bending the leaf will break the leaf. I removed the plant and planted another Cleyera in the same spot about 3 wks ago. Again the exact same thing has happened. Leaves change color become brittle and then fall off the plant. Do I have fungus/bacteria soil problem? Steps to solve the soil problem? Thx…

Mary Lou Mitchum Unregistered says:
We had two cleyeras die overnight, very suddenly, and about a year apart. It looked as though cold got them but it was not winter time. We still have two left that were beside the dying ones. (They were about 30 years old and appeared very healthy.) ? Never seen any plant die so quickly.

From seeing how a couple of my shrubs have responded, the brittle leaves and the photo makes me feel like it could be from not receiving enough water. Also, it appears from the photo that the shrub is buried to deeply which is a common reason shrubs and trees die. The ROOT COLLAR on trees and shrubs should be above ground. Shrubs and trees should NOT be planted at the same level as they were in the pot they came in because the majority of the time those plants are planted too deeply.

I don’t know what the problem is, but I’ve had it happen to two six year old plants in the same grouping. I am awaiting guidance.
