Notes:
So my wife and I can figure out whether this plant is a Beauty Bush or Duetzia, it stands over 10 feet (didn’t have enough photos to upload a wide shot) and has characteristics of both plants. The 3 photos show the leaves, flower and exfoliating bark. The flowers are around 3/4 inch long flaring white with a yellow throat. I have stumped 2 at nearby nurseries, they both waffle between the 2 plants. What say you?

Stone, I think you nailed it. The photos that you linked to are spot on. The leaves are perfect and the flowers look identical, thanks a lot. Jon

The leaves look like sweet shrub, but the flowers are different… There’s a chinese sweet shrub that has flowers which are closer… but still doesn’t seem right… Lewis’ mock orange (Philadelphus lewisii)seems close too, but the flowers still don’t seem right… The flowers sorta resemble albelia, and the bloom time seems right… Checked duetzia, and it’s a pretty good guess… Google has some pics for beauty bush (Kolkwitzia amabilis) that seem spot on for your shrub. http://www.smith.edu/gardens/bgilib/web/imageFrameset.php?latin_name=Kolkwitzia+amabilis&cat=3 Gets my reluctant vote…

I vote (if those are the only choices) for Beauty-Bush. The leaves don’t really look like Duetzia.
