Zoysia – Catching Clippings
Q: I have Meyer zoysia. My husband, the grass-cutter, says that he must bag the clippings. Everything I read says that clippings are good for the grass. What are the recommendations for cutting zoysia? If he has to buy a mulching mower and cut grass twice a week, I know he will keep bagging.
A: I sense that he just wants a new toy to mow with.
Mowing zoysia twice per week would keep the cuttings so small and fine that they will not contribute to thatch. If he goes to once per week, I could excuse the bagging as long as he uses the clippings for mulch.
