Fescue – Not For Floods
Q: An area of my lawn floods to about a quarter of an inch depth occasionally, but to add top soil and level it would be a huge task.
Is there a water resistant evergreen lawn seed that you can recommend?
A: Fescue is the only evergreen turf and it doesn’t usually like saturated soil. There are so many factors that determine how a grass reacts to flooding, it’s hard to say how fescue will fare. If the spot only floods “occasionally”, maybe the soil is just too hard-packed to support grass growth, which would have caused any failures you’ve had in the past.
