Well – Super-Chlorinating
Q: Do you know of a web site that gives instructions for super-chlorinating a new well before having the water tested?
A: Chlorinating a well is a method of sanitizing the water before it’s used by a household. Chlorine bleach is poured into the well in proportion to the amount of water it contains and is left to kill harmful bacteria overnight. The process only requires a few simple calculations. Although this is an easy homeowner project, it’s my understanding that state regulations require the company that drills a new well (or replaces a pump) to “shock” the well before turning it over to you.
