Urban Garden Rules – City of Atlanta
Q: What are the rules on an urban farm/gardening in Fulton County? How much of our property can we dedicate to growing vegetables? Do we need some sort of permit to grow vegetables in Fulton County?
A: Becky Griffin, UGA urban ag specialist, says that in June the Atlanta City Council passed the Urban Ag Zoning Ordinance which applies to the City of Atlanta but not the entire county. There is no effect on people wanting to grow vegetables in their own yards. However, if someone has undeveloped property that is zoned for residential use and wants to have a type of community garden/urban farm they may need to get a special administrative permit.
If you live in another city in Fulton County you may need to contact that city council for any ordinances specific to that city.
