Tree Limb – Bent to the Ground
Q: My little tree suddenly had one of its trunks bend over to the ground after a heavy rain. It’s about thirty feet tall and has three small trunks. Can it be fixed or do I need to cut it off?
A: I hate to recommend removing a branch that’s healthy but severely bent. My advice is to get some 1″ wide belting, wrap one end around the bent branch and the other end around a strong upright trunk of the tree. This will allow you to pull the weak branch back into place.
A couple of nylon belts from the bargain bin at a local Goodwill store would work well.
Do not use the “wire-in-a-water hose” technique: this will rub on the bark and harm the branch.
