Tara Dillard’s Comments on Hardiness Zones
I’ve always thought the map zones were bogus for our area. Designing heavily from south Dekalb to north Fulton, I know plants that will do well in my part of DeKalb but not in Gwinnett; also in N. Fulton but not south DeKalb.
Paying attention to what grows in the woodlands on the north side of Stone Mtn, vs. the south side, both sides in shade, is quite amazing.
Traveling from Augusta’s tip of the coastal plain up to Vinings and entering the beginning of the Piedmont explains a lot about our zones. It all goes back to, “plants don’t read books or maps”.
