Soil Temperature – Measuring
Q: What is the best way to measure soil temperature?
A: You’re smart to monitor your soil’s warmth. Soil temperature determines when to do many garden jobs…from putting out pre-emergent herbicides to planting summer bulbs. You can buy a soil thermometer at a garden center or you can use a common outdoor weather thermometer. Insert the bulb of the thermometer at least two inches into the soil to get a good reading.
Perhaps an easier way to check temperatures is to visit the University of Georgia Environmental Monitoring website. They have weather stations scattered across the state.
