Rabbit Eating Hellebore (Lenten Rose)
Q: After ten years, some creature found our Lenten roses. Will they come back? Some have just stems left, some have leaves.
A: The 45° angle of the stem cut makes me think the culprit has to be a rabbit. The only thing to make it more certain would be to find a rabbit or pile of rabbit droppings in the plot.
I have been told that Lenten rose is not bothered by browsing animals but you’ve shown me something new!
The plants will almost certainly come back from the soil crown. The bare stems will not resprout, so they can be scissored out. Give them a bit of azalea/camellia food to help them recover.
