Water shield (dollar bonnet) weed control in pond
Q: I was hoping you could give me advice regarding eliminating or controlling watershield in our pond. We have a one acre pond that’s about 1/2 to 2/3 covered. We have tried chemicals which work to some extent but not sure if we are applying properly.
A: I am far from being competent in pond management but I know how to find what you need. The experts at Texas A&M have put together a website that helps identify pond weeds then gives control options.
Imazapyr, 24D and glyphosate are all good choices for water shield control if applied correctly. Be sure to use a surfactant.
It won’t be a cheap process but if you stick to it you will succeed.
