Lifting limb off mail box
Q: The branch of a beautiful redbud tree in front our townhouse is growing into the mailbox. A neighbor suggested that we just “shave off” a bit of this branch where it’s touching the mailbox to get a few more years out of the branch and the mailbox. I can push up the branch and it comes up easily.
A: I do not like the idea of shaving off part of the limb. The tree won’t be able to easily heal that kind of wound.
If the tree limb is easy to lift off the mailbox, could you attach a cable at some point higher up the limb and then attach the other end of the cable to a large limb other side of the tree and tighten the cable enough to lift the subject limb off the mailbox? Seems like that would be a good option.
