Maple Tree – Tar Spot Disease
Q: I have a maple tree in my front yard that is developing black spot on the leaves. I am not sure what is going on and if I should do anything about it.
A: It’s a disease called tar spot. Although it looks worrisome, the tree won’t suffer much. Some leaves may fall but there won’t be massive defoliation.
Fungicide sprays won’t help much. The best you can do is rake up all leaves in the fall and remove them from your property.
