Magnolia – Moving
Q: I recently moved into a home where the previous owner allowed a volunteer (I’m assuming) magnolia to take up root three feet away from a 70+ inch circumference red oak. This magnolia is about two inches in diameter at the four foot mark and is about six and one half feet tall. My question is this: am I wasting my time in trying to relocate the magnolia ? Particularly since I’ll have to relocate it to my girlfriend’s home in Stone Mountain ?
A: Even if the magnolia doesn’t live you still have to make the attempt.
This will get you uncounted points in your girlfriend’s estimation…. plus you may get lucky and have the tree live after all.
Six feet isn’t too big to attempt. Be sure to take a picture of you two together by the tree after you plant it.
