Harry Lauder’s Walking Stick – Planting in a Pot
Q: Last Mother’s Day, I bought my wife a 5 gallon size Harry Lauder Walking Stick Plant. The plant looked a bit bedraggled when I got it. I immediately repotted it into a much larger container, watered it good and added a little root starter. Still today, the plant looks bedraggled. It’s out in the sun and I keep it watered. It does have new foliage coming on regularly but as the leaves mature, they begin to look bad.
A: I think the pot is too small. It should be at least 36 inches across for the plant to grow well. The dark pot color also heats up and causes warm roots which isn’t good for this tree. Repot it or plant it in your landscape where it belongs.
