Evergreen Wisteria – Identification

Q: I moved into my house near Lawrenceville four years ago. It’s probably been in the yard about 5-7 years. It is deciduous and woody. Can you identify it for me? Seems it likes it here!
A: It’s evergreen wisteria, Millettia reticulata. It should be too cold up here for it to be happy but obviously your vine doesn’t read the gardening literature. I guess winter cold is enough to knock off the leaves but not to kill the vine to the ground.
