Evergreen Screen – Bare at Bottom
Q: This is a great screen between us and our neighbor. But the lower part is leafless. Some plants have a little green on outer tips. Can we cut back and have new growth?
A: Your evergreen trees don’t seem to be dying but the lower part is disappearing because of shading from upper branches.
Evergreens like this do not send out new growth after pruning where is there so much shade.
Consider planting shade-loving plants like autumn fern or plum yew under your trees to hide the bare trunks.
