Deer – Eating Hosta
Q: I’ve heard about deer problems before…but now I’ve got one! Is there anything I can do to keep deer from eating my beautiful hosta?
A: We went to Glen-Ella Springs Inn last week and saw the electrifying solution below. Despite being on the edge of a big wooded meadow, their hosta was untouched.
You can try using spray repellents like Deer Away, etc. The key is to keep the repellent chemicals on the foliage AT ALL TIMES. Deer are creatures of habit. If they get a taste of your hosta without the repellent they will return, even if it is applied once again.
It’s also imperative to start spraying the repellent on the first hosta leaves you see. Don’t let deer get into the habit of coming to your landscape for a free lunch.
