Daffodils- Transplanting
Q: I recently moved but beforehand I had ordered some daffodils. The landscaping was not completed so I had to plant the bulbs in a vacant lot next door. They have come up and are beautiful, but I want to transplant them back into my yard. When is the best time to do that?
A: The best time to move daffodils would be after the foliage turns yellow. Fading leaves signal that the plant has absorbed all the sunshine it can this spring. If the soil where they are planted is not very good, mix two cubic feet of soil conditioner into a ten square foot area and till it ten inches deep. Plant the daffodil bulbs with their base four inches beneath the soil surface.
