Carolina lily
Q: I found this in my back yard in Lumpkin County. It just showed up this past summer.
Is it a protected plant? Can I move it and if I can what type of soil and sun conditions should it have?
It is presently growing in full shade under a variety of pine, oak, dogwood and sourwood.
A: Theresa Schrum says:
It’s Carolina Lily, Lilium michauxii, – which isn’t protected but is uncommon. It would be best to not move it as they can be touchy about being disturbed.
I have two pictures published on the internet of this plant.
