Bromeliads- Care After Sunburned

Q: Our beautiful bromeliads are dying. They were indoors but we moved them outside after repotting. The tag said full sun; they were outdoors for two days. Now they look scalded.

A: Despite the tag, your bromeliads are sunburned, perhaps beyond repair. Scissor off the dead leaves and put the plants back outdoors. This time place them in bright shade with no direct sun. It’s possible you may get regrowth by way of “pups” emerging beside the original plants. The pups can be separated and planted once they are six inches high.
