Aquaponics Training – Where to Find
Q: We are looking for aquaponics training or somebody who uses the system in Georgia. We have a 16′ x16′ fenced area.
A: Aquaponics is the system of growing fish alongside edible plants, using water from the fish tank to fertilize the plants. Tilapia are usually the fish of choice but catfish, crayfish and freshwater prawns can also be raised. It can be a fun experiment but the need for daily attention may become more than you anticipate. You’ll need a greenhouse in which to keep the fish and plants warm in winter. David Epstein (www.earthsolutions.com) has installed several systems in Georgia. You can find practical notes at www.georgiaaquaponics.com. There is a state center for aquaponics at Fort Valley College and State University, http://www.caes.uga.edu/Topics/sustainag/documents/GACenterforAquacultureDevelopment.pdf Good luck and let me know how things turn out!
