Pollinating Insect- Law

Q: One day while my neighbor was whacking carpenter bees, a policeman stopped and warned him about killing a pollinating insect. He said that it is against the law. Do you know of a Georgia law against killing a pollinating insect?

A: An online search of the Georgia Annotated Code turned up laws regarding honeybee sales and management but revealed nothing about other pollinating insects. Truthfully, carpenter bees do little pollination. They are so big that they can bore through the side of a flower without passing the pollen-covered stamen. In my view, managing their numbers would not affect local pollination needs.
