Guinea Fowl – For Tick Control
Q: Ticks are a real problem on my property in Fayette county. Do guinea fowl eat ticks? I live in a rural area and would gladly raise a few if they would control these insects.
A: With Peachtree City using goats to control kudzu, I guess Fayette county is a hotbed of natural pest control now! Guinea fowl are reputed to consume lots of ticks and a study in Suffolk county , New York, confirmed it.
If you decide to raise them, be aware that guineas are noisy and cantankerous. On the other hand, they make great burglar alarms and are much more self-sufficient than chickens.
