Bulldog 51 Fescue – Experience
Q: Have you had any experience with Bulldog 51 fescue?
A: I have not but UGA turf expert Clint Waltz says it came out of the UGA turfgrass breeding program fifteen years ago. It’s an improved tall fescue cultivar that handles our climate and soil conditions well but its lawn characteristics (e.g. color, overall quality, density, and leaf texture) are more similar to Kentucky-31 pasturegrass than the turf-type tall fescue varieties. In a Chicago test, it is described as one of the coarser varieties. Despite claims of superiority, I doubt Bulldog 51 is better-looking than the finer-bladed turf-type tall fescue varieties.
