Citron Melon – Growing
Q: We used to grow a thing called a citron, a watermelon-type fruit. It looks exactly like a watermelon but the darn thing is harder than a rock. Can you tell me where I might acquire some seeds? My younger buddies think I’m crazy when I tell them how hard it was.
A: In the watermelon fields of south Georgia, the citron melon is a noxious weed, good only for pranks.
I have a friend from Reidsville who relates breaking open citron melons and putting them under the tires of cars. The wheels would spin helplessly while the kids laughed their heads off!
