Cherry Trees – No Fruit
Q: I have two sweet cherry trees that don’t fruit. The nursery said they are pollinators to each other. How can I get some cherries?
A: Your best bet is to go to a grocery store. The most likely cause of your problem is that the flowers are being frozen each year. You’d think that Georgia’s mild winters would be conducive to cherries but our wild temperature swings in January are actually much worse for cherries than being beneficial. Tart cherries, like ‘Early Richmond’, ”Montmorency’, and ‘North Star’ might do well in extreme north Georgia, where winters are consistently cold, but sweet cherries are rarely successful.
