Blackberry Lily Seeds – When to Plant
Q: I have several blackberry lily (Belamcanda chinensis) seeds I harvested from my plants. I want to sow the seeds in containers to give to friends next spring. Is this the right time to plant them?
A: Spring is a fine time to plant the seed. Simply collect them after the pods split open, save in a cool place in winetr and plant them a half-inch deep in individual small pots in April. Put the pots in a sunny window or a semi-shade spot outdoors. You should see grass-like sprouts in a few weeks. Although they will not grow large enough to bloom the first year, your friends will thank you in a couple of years when the delightful spotted orange flowers appear in summer.
