Japanese Beetle – Controlled by Drought
Q: Where have all the Japanese beetles gone? Last year I had thousands, this year only one (and I had to search for that one). I do not spray so I know I had nothing to do with their disappearance. Any clues?
A: I had a few on my roses this year but nothing like years past. My guess is that drought killed most of the eggs and grubs last fall. This is one of the few instances where weather does have an effect on an insect population.
