Pesticides – Disposal
Q: I need to clean out a storage room on my carport that has many old containers of weed killer, bug spray and fertilizer. What is the safest way to dispose of them?
A: The easiest way is to soak your liquid chemicals into kitty litter to make them acceptable to municipal solid waste facilities. One of the easiest ways to accomplish this is to buy the kitty litter product that comes packaged in a gallon jug. Just pour in the liquid pesticides, then recap the jug and place it in your household garbage.
Triple-bag containers of dusts and granules and put them in the garbage.
If you have cans of paint, pour kitty litter in the containers and replace the lid. Household quantities of granular lawn fertilizer can be placed in a heavy duty plastic bag and put out for the garbage truck.
