Camilla Blossom With A Growing Seed And Root
Q: I have a camellia blossom with a seed and root growing out of it. I tore it apart to see if the seed root came from the flower or possibly landed on the blossom and germinated. I now think that the seed somehow landed on the blossom rather than coming out of blossom.
A: Camellia expert Jim Pruckler says the seed is not the size or shape of a camellia. It is shaped more like a sunflower seed. Birds likely dropped the seed into the flower, where there was enough moisture for germination to begin.
