Notes:
A (so far) small shrub has popped up in an area with hollies that was cleared last spring. The new leaves do look soft at this stage and some stems appear reddish. No blooms or fruit. Any ideas so I can cultivate or whack? Thank you so much!

It’s hard to tell with out flowers. I’m guessing maybe a type of honey suckle (Lonicera) Possible the invasive Amur honeysuckle (L. maackii) ? Its pith should be hollow. Copy & paste the included link below for images of L. maackii and see if you have a match, click on images to enlarge. If you are uncertain, let one plant grow mature to flowering stage for ID purpose; resubmit with flowers photo. Best wishes!
