The plant stems resemble bamboo but they are not hard like bamboo. I bring it in in the fall and put it outside in the spring. It likes being outside and after a month or so being moved outside it will start to thrive. It hasn’t ever bloomed, but i was led to believe it would from the person that gave me the plant.

Maybe a type of spiral ginger (Costus family)? Flowers are needed to tell which genus and species yours is. When these plants blooms, please resubmit with photo of flowers so we could narrow down for you.
