Skunk – Odor removal
A chemist in Illinois believes he has discovered a way to obliterate one of the most noxious odors known to humans: skunk. Paul Krebaum used concentrated hydrogen peroxide to remove noxious smells from the chemical processes in his laboratory. When a co-worker announced that his cat had had an unpleasant encounter with a skunk, Paul remembered that the chemicals he worked with resembled those that cause skunk odors.
Krebaum went to a local drug store and purchased ingredients. The cat was welcomed back in the house after taking a bath in the solution. Trappers and nuisance wildlife control specialists have found it effective on their clothes.
Here is the recipe: Mix 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide (from the drug store) with 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of liquid soap. Bathe the animal or clothes or shoes with the solution and then rinse with tap water.
