Notes:
Mysterious plant that just appeared by my fence. Have cut it down several times, but it comes back. Decided maybe it is worth keeping just because of its persistence and it is cool looking. The neighbor mentioned he had one just like it on the other side of his yard by the fence and was also interested in what it might be.

Maybe a species in the Mahonia genus? Possible the leatherleaf M. bealei?
