From this distance it’s hard to tell. I’m wondering if it might be rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus). Please resubmit with closeup photos of twigs (for winter buds) and base of one of the big trunk. These pictures would help to confirm or rule out what I’m thinking and provide more clues. It appears there are some old flowers still on the branches (?). Please give us closeup of these as well.
