Found this little plant growing all by itself on a heavily wooded slope under a beech tree.

Thanks so much – I agree with serotonin – it did have a spicy odor I did not identify but definitely not lemon.

I think the ‘bell shape’ is calyx? Maybe a species in the Cosllinsonia genus? If this is of the genus, leaves and flowers should have a lemony fragrant. Sorry, I can’t tell which species this is. Check out two species the C. serontina & C. canadensis from these included links below. Best wishes!
