Recovering loropetalum from severe pruning
Q: Maybe I shouldn’t have, but I cut these loropetalums back drastically when we moved in the house. What should we do now?
A: An honest confession is good for the soul, my mother would say.
Typically a loropetalum will re-sprout from limbs an inch or so in diameter. But by the time the limbs get to the size of your shrubs, the dormant buds can’t pop out.
That said, you don’t have a problem. Completely remove the bare limbs and let the loropetalums grow to the size you want.
