Notes:
I found this prostrate scruffy looking weed in a crack in the pavement. The reddish brown stem was prostrate with numerous long white hairs. After putting it in a bottle of water, the main tap root sprouted many fine roots within a week. The smooth margined succulent leaves grow in an alternate spiral up the stem, which started upright once it got some water. Imagine my surprise when beautiful pink flowers with six petals and yellow stamens bloomed after the first week. Help me figure this out!

I have found Portulaca to be invasive. Every piece that breaks off will take root.

I do believe you’re right. Right after I found this one, I found some Common Purslane, and read up on them. It was hard to tell whether it had five petals or six, but next time it blooms I’ll tease it apart until I can see it. But I’m pretty certain that it’s Portulaca pilosa – Pink Purslane (AKA “kiss-me-quick”). Thanks for the identification help! Jim
