Notes:
I have noticed this plant more in my wooded backyard this year. The pictured specimen is more substantial than the others, possibly because it is in a sunnier spot. Other examples have fewer leaves, and one or two stems coming up from the ground. Slow grower. The branches come off the main stem a nearly right angles. I have not observed any flowers so far, and the leaves drop off in the winter. The PlantSnap app on my iphone suggests it is some kind of tupelo (or poison ivy, hah!)

The leaves are also looking similar to those in the paw paw genus (Asimina). Check out the leaf bud for one in the group, the dwarf paw paw (Asimina parviflora) from the included link below. Click on images to enlarge. https://dendro.cnre.vt.edu/dendrology/syllabus/factsheet.cfm?ID=339

With “The branches come off the main stem a nearly right angles” it could be species of tupelo (Nyssa) (?). Check out images of tupelo leaf buds from the included link below and see if you have a match. Best wishes! http://namethatplant.net/plantdetail.shtml?plant=977
