Notes:

I’ve been identifying lots of weeds lately with a book called “Weeds of the South” (on indefinite loan since the library closed), but this one is eluding me and driving me batty. I should be able to figure it out since it’s so common and fills up fields… Multiple yellow sunflower like blooms (3/4″-1″ dia.). Lower leaves serrate, upper leaves more deeply cut (serrate pinnatafid?)- zoom in on the whole plant and you can see the difference. Plant is about 18-24″ tall. Sunflower Family?

You’re welcome Jim! Appreciate for the confirmed ID. I have been gardening forever and plants are getting recognizable after while. Books are helpful, some plants simply are not covered or recorded. Plants are often reclassified, with new binomial names moving back and forth from one genus to another. This can also cause some frustration in searching for plants ID. Best wishes to you Jim! Laura

Thank you! I believe that’s the one. How *did* you find that? I’ve been Google searching for days if not weeks. And it doesn’t seem to be in this Weed book.

Maybe a species in the Packera genus? Possible the Small’s Ragwort (Packera anonyma)? Check it out and see if you have a match. Best wishes! http://www.namethatplant.net/plantdetail.shtml?plant=1364
