Notes:
We saw this in Belize. It lives on the mahogany trees and eventually grows totally over them. I don’t remember if the guide said parasite or symbiotic. Looking for the name of the plant.

Maybe an epiphyte cactus, it uses the tree for support only not for nutrient. Check out Dog-Tail Cactus, Pitaya de Tortuga (Selenicereus testusdo syn. include, Cereus testudo, Deamia diabolica, Strophocactus testudo,) and see if you have a match.
